san cisco - San Cisco

Genre: Alternative
Year Released: 2012
Label: Fat Possum Records

Look no further for a summer album. San Cisco by San Cisco is an upbeat, fun and lively debut album from the group. Originally from Australia, the group released Golden Revolver EP and Awkward EP before dropping their first album in 2012. After listening to Awkward, I was excited to see the group topped their joyous melodies in their new album.

Starting off the album by welcoming people with a “Hello” in their intro track “Beach”, it was clear the group grew into their sound. Using colourful keyboard arrangements and unique harmonies, the San Cisco kept their new pieces lightweight and perfect for the beach.

Songs like “Lyall” kept the collection moving with great pace, however “Hunter” and “Mission Failed” slowed down the album due to odd placements.  My personal favourites, “Fred Astaire”, “No Friends”, and “Metaphor”, kept me dancing and enjoying their latest project.

Overall, the album is perfect for the poolside with an easy progression that keeps you foot tapping in every track. San Cisco never fails to uplift spirits and dance around in a nice afternoon in the sun creating a great album to jam to throughout the summer months!

Banks' EP, London, left me wanting more…
With a mixture of beats, emotional lyrics and a collection of sounds and instruments, I cannot stop listening to her voice and EP.

Below is the video for "This is What It Feels Like", make sure you check out her songs and her past work.

acid rap - Chance the Rapper

Genre: Rap/Hip-Hop
Year Released: 2013
Label: Self-Released

Chance, Chance, Chance…
Chancelor Bennett, also known as Chance the Rapper, is a self-employed rapper with two mixtapes, 10 Day and Acid Rap. With a flare of education, jazz and rap, this mixtape is an individual piece of art that should be listened to.

By starting off the mixtape with a symphony of voices, Chance collaborated with various artists to create a unique sound and original collection of songs. With names like Ab-Soul and Childish Gambino being brought out, the rapper continue to build his name with quality songs and amazing lyrics.
Chance’s educational history is definitely seen throughout the album with his elaborate vocabulary and murderous phrases. My person favourites, “Cocoa Butter Kisses ft. Vic Mensa & Twista”, “Lost ft. Noname Gypsy”, and “Chain Smoker”, were catchy, well composed and fresh.

Looking forward to his work in the future incuding the harmonies and choir ensembles he puts together for the next mixtape or album. Up and coming, he is an artist worth having on your iPod.
